Development of the Science and High-Tech SEZ in Ekandustria. Minister of Trade and industry Ebrahim Patel told MPs in July that his department, working with the province of Gauteng, will focus its energies on the finalisation of the business case for the proposed Science and High-Tech SEZ in Ekandustria.
In February the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency advertised a tender inviting service providers to develop a business case, feasibility study and business plan for the proposed SEZ.
Development of West Rand Agri-industrial Park and Logistic Hub Gauteng has an ambitious plan to develop Gauteng’s West Rand into an agri-industrial hub, primarily producing high-value crops for domestic and export markets.
The Gauteng department of agriculture and rural development has identified two priority areas to grow the economy in the next five years. These areas are improved agri-industrialisation and market access, and advancing the sustainability and environmental agenda. To this end, the department has allocated R125-million to capacitate 150 agro-processing small, medium and micro enterprises before the end of the 2019/20 financial year.
